The most beautiful markets in the Dordogne near Bergerac

In the Périgord, going to the market is much more than a simple shopping trip. It’s a ritual. A moment to slow down and wander between the stalls, chat with the foie gras producer, hesitate between a juicy melon and fresh Dordogne strawberries, and eventually linger over a coffee on a sunny terrace. From Le Hameau du Jardin Fleuri, you are perfectly located to explore them all. Here is our selection of the best markets within an hour’s drive.

Farmers' market in the Périgord

Issigeac Market – Our Favourite

time 35 min

This is undoubtedly the most iconic market in the area. The famous Issigeac Market takes place every Sunday morning around the church and castle squares, as well as throughout several streets of the village. During the summer season, it expands to occupy much of the village and brings together organic and local produce, regional specialities, and handcrafted goods.

Musicians add a lively and friendly atmosphere. With hundreds of stalls and thousands of visitors, it is one of the most popular markets in the Dordogne. Be sure to use one of the nearby car parks. Our tip: arrive early, around 8:30 am, to enjoy the best stalls before the crowds arrive.

In July and August, a night market is also held every Thursday evening from 7 pm in front of the church — a gentler, more relaxed way to experience the Périgord.

When? Every Sunday morning, 8 am–1 pm

Bergerac Market – The Classic

time 20 min

The markets of the Bergerac region are lively, colourful and vibrant throughout the year. The town even hosts several markets each week.

The Saturday market is the largest. It takes place across three locations in the town centre — Place Gambetta, around Notre-Dame Church, and Place Louis de la Bardonnie — and offers local produce, farm products, fresh fish and seafood. It is the perfect excuse to continue your stroll through the medieval streets of old Bergerac.

On Fridays, the traditional Left Bank market takes place on Place Barbacane from 8 am to 1 pm, featuring local producers, seafood, flowers, and beautiful views of Old Bergerac’s historic buildings.

When? Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings

Eymet Market – The Gourmet Bastide

time 35 min

Eymet is a charming medieval bastide town set on the banks of the River Dropt, with its arcades and central square seemingly made for market days. Every Thursday morning, the town hosts a wonderful market that is popular with both locals and visitors.

The atmosphere is more local and less touristy than some of the larger markets, giving it a character all of its own. It is the perfect place to spend the morning before enjoying lunch on a terrace beneath the covered arcades.

When? Every Thursday morning

Lalinde Market – The Hidden Gem

time 20 min

Less well known, but undeservedly so. Lalinde Market, located around 20 km from Bergerac, takes place every Thursday morning in this former English bastide on the banks of the Dordogne River.

It is a modest-sized market with a friendly atmosphere, where you can find excellent local produce without the crowds that flock to the larger summer markets. A wonderful alternative for a weekday morning outing.

When? Every Thursday morning

Night Markets and Gourmet Markets – Summer in the Périgord

From mid-June to mid-September, night markets and farmers’ markets bring villages across the region to life. These gourmet markets, often known as “tablées nocturnes”, take place in village squares where visitors can enjoy freshly prepared local specialities from small producers while sharing large communal tables in a warm and festive atmosphere, often accompanied by live music.

Belvès, Issigeac, Eymet and many other nearby villages host these popular summer events throughout the season.

What You’ll Find on the Stalls

The markets of the Dordogne are the perfect place to discover the region’s famous culinary specialities: black truffles, foie gras, confit, walnuts and Bergerac wines. You will also find strawberries, melons, goat’s cheese, local honey, and seasonal wild mushrooms such as cèpes.

The Périgord is a generous land, and its markets are a perfect reflection of that abundance.

Explore Them from Le Hameau

From Bosset, all of these markets can be reached in less than 40 minutes. The perfect weekend plan practically writes itself: market in the morning, a picnic among the vineyards, and an afternoon by the pool at Le Hameau.

That, too, is what holidays in the Périgord are all about.
